Logic Pro: Production & Theory Hacks
-
3:30
An Introduction to the Series
In this first video, Larry welcomes you and presents the overall vision of this video series.
-
6:11
Using the Groove Track with Sequenced Drums
See how to use Logic's Groove Track to extract the groove of a vintage drum break and apply it to a pattern generated by Logic's sequencer.
-
7:44
Using the Groove Track with Recorded Drums
Continue looking at the Groove Track with recording drums with a MIDI keyboard and then live percussion recorded in the studio.
-
9:28
Adding Drummer Tracks
Next up, watch how to add a Drummer Track playing an electronic kit and a percussion drummer track adding in some extra parts that we haven't recorded.
-
10:48
Adding Custom Apple Loops
In this video, explore how to take sounds from a previous project and add them into the current arrangement by adding them to the Apple loops library. These are then key mapped to ensure they transpose to the key of our project.
-
11:02
Creating Chords with Chord Trigger & Transposer
Now it's time to add some chords to the track which we do using a combination of Chord Trigger and Transposer to create a "fool proof" patch for adding a solid harmony to the arrangement.
-
10:25
Adding a MIDI Bassline with Transposer
In this video, discover how to use Logic Pro's Transposer MIDI effect to create a bassline using a jazzy double bass patch. The Transposer ensures our jamming remains within the key of the track.
-
13:46
Adding a Melody with MIDI FX
Next up, see how to use a combination of MIDI FX plug-ins to create a "generative" harp part which allows Logic to take care of the melody generation while we choose parts that work within the track.
-
10:29
Modulating Filter Parameters with the Modulator
Now watch how to add in a Modulator allowing you to modulate the filter section of an Autofilter which we place on the harp sound, which is then tweaked and printed as MIDI.
-
9:41
Playing in Transposed Melodies
In this video, see how to use the Arpeggiator and Transposer alongside the MIDI keyboard to "hit" notes and always remain in key! This is a very simple way to approach melody creation.
-
5:52
Drawing in Scale Quantized Melodies
Watch how to use Logic's Piano Roll with scale quantize and the brush tool to draw in melodies without being able to input a wrong note or a note outside the scale. Then see how to draw in a visual representation of the scale you are working within to make drawing melodies even easier.
-
10:48
Creating Harmonic Variation in the Track
Next up, explore how to create a B section for your track with different chords. In order to achieve this, we return to the chords to play in some harmonic variations, and also add a bassline which follows these new chords. Then see how to call upon the Apple loops library to add some extra color to the arrangement.
-
10:12
Creating an Arrangement Using the Arrangement Track
In this video, discover how to "sample" the arrangement of a reference track and add it into Logic's Arrangement track. We use this to populate the track sections with the content we have created. Then see how to use the Arrangement Track to audition different arrangement ideas.
-
10:15
Adding in Drum Fills
Last up, learn how to use Logic's Drummer Track with no individual kit pieces selected to auto-generate drum fills for us. We use this to create drum fills with different drum sounds including electronic presets. See how!

Hands down one of the best Logic tutorials. Just so many useful tips (never used the scripting and many of the midi tools taught). Nicely explained too.

Excellent, thank you!
I'm a long time Logic user (since Emagic days) and I always find delight in constantly discovering new features that outlines this very powerful and inspiring DAW to create with. Larry is such an amazing tutor, I know him from Faderport courses, and he manages elegantly to share with us with these very creative tips that help our workflow. Excellent work, thank you!

Great tutorial
This is a great tutorial which teaches lots of tricks to make creating songs in Logic a breeze. Just one example- I never would have thought to turn off all drums in the drummer track as a way to achieve producing only fills!

Refreshing way to do things
by moving fast and not explaining every detail, it seems to be more understandable than the typical explain every detail and therefore distract you from the subject at hand
