Logic Pro: Production & Theory Hacks
Logic wiz Larry Holcombe presents detailed Logic Pro video tutorials! Watch and see how come up with new ideas, parts and performances using numerous features and functions in Logic Pro, that all work together in the same key and tempo. No music theory knowledge is required to use these tips, techniques and hacks, and the methods shown result in interesting and creative new parts that you can use for your songs and productions. The Logic project and audio files that are used in the videos are included via the course extras link so you can follow along with your Logic system! • Using the Groove Track with Sequenced Drums (06:11) - See how to use Logic's Groove Track to extract the groove of a vintage drum break and apply it to a pattern generated by Logic's sequencer.

• Adding a Melody with MIDI FX (13:46) - Next up, see how to use a combination of MIDI FX plug-ins to create a "generative" harp part which allows Logic to take care of the melody generation while we choose parts that work within the track.
• Modulating Filter Parameters with the Modulator (10:29) - Now watch how to add in a Modulator allowing you to modulate the filter section of an Autofilter which we place on the harp sound, which is then tweaked and printed as MIDI.
• Playing in Transposed Melodies (09:41) - In this video, see how to use the Arpeggiator and Transposer alongside the MIDI keyboard to "hit" notes and always remain in key! This is a very simple way to approach melody creation.
• Drawing in Scale Quantized Melodies (05:52) - Watch how to use Logic's Piano Roll with scale quantize and the brush tool to draw in melodies without being able to input a wrong note or a note outside the scale. Then see how to draw in a visual representation of the scale you are working within to make drawing melodies even easier.
• Creating Harmonic Variation in the Track (10:48) - Next up, explore how to create a B section for your track with different chords. In order to achieve this, we return to the chords to play in some harmonic variations, and also add a bassline which follows these new chords. Then see how to call upon the Apple loops library to add some extra color to the arrangement.
• Creating an Arrangement Using the Arrangement Track (10:12) - In this video, discover how to "sample" the arrangement of a reference track and add it into Logic's Arrangement track. We use this to populate the track sections with the content we have created. Then see how to use the Arrangement Track to audition different arrangement ideas.
