Chapter 1 : General Updates & Enhancements
Learn how the menus in the updated textured interface interact with both Logic's new Display option and the system display options.
Explore the Step Sequencer's new live recording real-time step input mode along with the live record quantize option.
See how the new live record options for velocity and note length are used for real-time input.
Next up, learn how the new Step Input mode for note, melodic, and automation rows is used to enter data from your MIDI keyboard. Explore the new Mono mode, which allows only one step per column during live record, step record, randomization, and manual step entry. And see how the new key and scale/mode quantize function conforms note pitches to the selected key and scale/mode. Finally, witness this in action with the new long requested note and octave transposition behavior of Drum Kit Designer kit pieces!
Learn about the new legato pattern setting, how to separate pattern regions by Drum Machine Designer kit pieces, edit custom row names, use custom row sort orders, use the new Learn assign function, how to convert MIDI regions to patterns, clear and randomize notes and automation separately, use the new step value ramp, tie step modifier keys, and more.
The long-requested ability to restrict MIDI input by port and channel on a per track basis is now implemented. See how it all works.
Logic Pro now supports the new MIDI 2.0 format. Learn about what's ahead as MIDI 2.0 is implemented in the next generation of MIDI hardware.
Chapter 2 : Surround Sound QuickStart
Discover the basics of surround sound and how to set it up in Logic Pro.
Explore how the surround panner in Logic is used to place track output signals at specific speaker locations and how it functions differently based on the three available channel input formats: mono, stereo, or surround.
Discover how to navigate the advanced plug-in header when using multi-channel format effects plug-ins.
Explore the processing, metering, and bouncing functions on the surround master channel strip.
Chapter 3 : Dolby Atmos & Logic Pro 10.7
Learn about the basics of what Dolby Atmos is and how it works.
Explore the new Dolby Atmos plug-in, along with some basic necessary technical details.
Learn how the Surround and 3D Object Panners work, how signal flow works on the master channel, and how the metering format changes after the Dolby Atmos plug-in.
Chapter 4 : Mixing in Dolby Atmos
Watch as a rough stereo mix is set up for mixing in Dolby Atmos format. Multi-Channel Gain and 7.1.2 metering is placed on the master channel strip before the Atmos plug-in for surround bed processing. 7.1.4 level and loudness metering plug-ins are placed post Atmos. The metering legends in each format are reviewed.
Discover the B-Format Space Designer presets augmented for Dolby Atmos and see how the enhanced controls affect the spread of the reverb. Side chain compression is set up on the reverb Aux return to create a bloom in the reverb, while the multi-channel gain on the master channel is used to control the level of the overall surround bed tracks.
Follow along as a rhythmic delay is set up in the left/right mid channels, along with a tight slap on the left/right. Side chain compression is added for a ducking effect before it's sent to the reverb.
Discover how a 3D object track is assigned, and automation of the 3D object panner is used on the elevation and back/front planes to move the spatial placement of the audio across the 3D soundstage.
Watch as the Echo and Phat FX plug-ins are put to work generating saturated echoes on the chorus vocal and placed above and behind the listener's position.
Next, a couple more stereo tracks are set up and automated as 3D Objects. Check out how the updated 7.1.2 version of the Tremolo plug-in is used to create multi-channel movement on a surround bed track.
Discover how to set the amount sent to the LFE channel uniquely on each track and how multi-channel effects plug-ins are able to isolate and process the LFE channel.
Learn how to set two separate VCAs - for the surround bed and Object tracks - in order to create a fade out at the end of the arrangement.
Explore a couple of additional processing workflows for the surround bed and learn how to export (and import) a Dolby Atmos ADM BWF master file compatible with Apple Music.
In this final video, discover the usual potpourri of useful new features, including the new mono-to-stereo PedalBoard format, improved flex pitch detection, advanced preferences re-design, side chain indicators in plug-in slots, the option to record automation with regions on audio tracks, a variety of new loops and sounds, and new demo projects to help get you started with spatial audio.
