Let’s start off with some general updates. There are some great updates that really enhance Live’s workflow.
With Live 9.5 come 4 brand new Filter Circuit Types. Now we can drive the filter just like we would be able to with analog hardware. There are plenty of different colors and sounds these bring including self resonance.
Next let’s move onto the brand new Max for Live instruments. Scottie explores the ins & outs of this awesome bass instrument.
In this video, Scottie explores another new Max for Live instrument, Poli, will be quite familiar after working with Bass. A lot of the parameters are the same but it also includes some great tools when working with more than one note at a time.
Scottie dives into this interesting six engine synth. Lots of different sounds and syntheses type are packed into this one.
Here’s the big update... Simpler has been redone with three different modes. Warping can be done right within the device making samples in time. You can choose between the Classic, One Shot and Slice modes. Each brings it's own flavor and workflow.

Ableton Live keeps getting better and better, and the newly released Live 9.5 update is chock full of improvements. In this six video tutorial series Ableton trainer Scottie Dugan demonstrates the new features and how to use them creatively.
Scottie first walks you through the many general updates to Live 9.5 that make working in it more productive, like a new Metering Display and default 3rd party Plug-In Mappings. Scottie then explores the four new Filter Circuit types found in the 9.5 update and how you can use them to drive Live's Filter Effects and expand your sonic landscape.
The next 3 videos each cover one of the new Max for Live instruments. First, he discusses Bass, a new analog-style mono-synth with classic synthesizer functionality. Next, he explores Poli, which is similar to Bass but with its own unique parameter set. The last new Max for Live instrument is Multi, a six-engine synthesizer capable of a myriad of interesting sounds and synthesis types.
Scottie saves the biggest update for his final video, the update made to Simpler, which has been redone with three different modes including Classic, One Shot, and Slice. Scottie dives into each of them, along with how you can Warp right inside Simpler, making samples in real-time.

Nice to see a video dedicated to the updates. One BIG suggestion to Mr. Dugan, make your mouse pointer bigger or highlight it/ change it's color, etc. I, and I'm sure others are watching these videos on an iPad or a MacBook. When someone is new to the software, they don't know where the button, switch or whatever you are pointing to, is located. You routinely fly to whatever button, hit it and are gone. Hard to follow the little pin of a black mouse arrow when you don't know the software. I should have mentioned this in my review of Live but the same can be said for all tutorials. Thanks!
