    Introduction

Larry welcomes you to the series and gives you a play through of the track you'll be making together.

  • image description 9:46

    The Track Foundation Pt. 1

In this video, we create a Kick and rumble combination using Kick synthesis, sample layering and manipulating found sounds.

  • image description 11:01

    The Track Foundation Pt. 2

Larry continues setting the track foundation.

  • image description 16:35

Fine Tuning the Kick & Additional Elements

Next we add saturation to our kick drum and also add a baseline and off-beat Hi-Hat to fill out the groove. These sounds are then fine tuned to fit in the mix.

  • image description 11:40

    Adding FX Loops

In this video, we add some extra FX loops to help us to add tension to the track and enhance the builds.

  • image description 13:40

    Adding an Acid Line

See how to add an acid 303 line which will be the main hook of the track. We design the sound in Phoscyon and program a line around the root note of our scale.

  • image description 10:16

    303 FX & Drums

In this video, we fine-tune the 303 line by adding a delay and then add some additional drums in the form of a 4/4 clap, and fast hats to give us more elements to keep the arrangement interesting. Finally we add a hoover style riser.

  • image description 14:02

    Basic Arrangement

Larry now takes an arrangement from another track and copies it to get us into the arrangement mindset. He then creates an Intro, Main Track Body and Outro.

  • image description 9:50

    Bass Stab & Extra Clap

See how to add an additional drum and bass style low stab to help add interest to the track, and then apply processing to fit it in. We also place a clap sound on the 2 and 4 beats to change the groove slightly.

  • image description 6:28

    303 Automation Pt. 1

In this video, we use Logic's Smart Controls to alter parameters on the 303 part playing from Phoscyon. This is mapped to a MIDI controller so we can introduce some live tweaking. We subsequently add an additional 303 to add momentum to the second drop.

  • image description 9:50

    303 Automation Pt. 2

Larry continues working on the 303's automation and tweaking.

  • image description 7:13

Fine Tuning the FX & Arrangement

Larry now arranges some of the incidental tension FX so the arrangement keeps moving forward. Some of these are automated so they crescendo to enhance transitions.

  • image description 11:41

    The Hoover Sound

For the breakdown, we create a custom, Hoover style patch in Massive, and then automate parameters so it comes to life and builds up to the second drop. A reverb is also added to help the sound build even more up to the drop.

  • image description 17:17

    Adding Some Extra Parts

In this video, we start by adding some crispness to the 303 parts with saturation. We then continue to add some additional fills and vocal FX to help fill out the arrangement.

  • image description 14:09

    Mixing It

In this video, we add some stereo width to our hats and automate a flanger to create interest. We then apply some EQ, rolling off the low end in certain sounds, and add some hi pass processing on the stereo output as well.

  • image description 12:11

    Finishing It Up

In this final video, we organize the project and apply limiters to the busses to help tame transients, and also add some parallel processing to the kick and clap to help them cut through. Lastly, we add a mastering chain to finalize our track!

Rated 2.5 out of 5 by from No Logic? Not for you! Almost impossible to follow without Logic and a lot of third party plug ins.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by from Good Tutorial I think it is overall a good tutorial! It shows the making of a track from start to finish. The guy knows what he does. I like the practical way how he does the thing and not talking about how to do it in theory. Making music is about making descisions that lead into a complete track. The track its self is good but not a really outstanding one, but for the tutorial it definitely does the job. The mix is good. When you are a absolut beginner you may struggle recreating those loops that where used. But the part about how to create a Kick and a simple beat is explained in detail. I'm not a logic user but I think the tutorial translate well into any other DAW. This is not a tutorial on how you use your DAW at all, it about making a track from start to finish and you can adopt some parts of the workflow.

Rated 2.5 out of 5 by from He's kinda just doing his own thing I struggled to pay attention while watching this series. It's much less of a tutorial and more of watching someone make a song and occasionally explain what he's doing without and extra context. It requires you to have Logic Pro X to really follow along, so if you have Ableton Live or another DAW you really can't follow along. He doesn't explain the purpose behind things and explaining why those things make techno, techno. He quietly jumps from one thing to the next while you sit watching him fine tune a song in real time which isn't helpful and I found myself trying not to doze off into a nap. I'm not even sure who this video is targeted towards. If you're able to follow along with everything he's doing and understand all the concepts he's doing then I'm certain you wouldn't even need this video and if you're a beginner, this is way too complicated to follow along. It would have been better if he made general additions and changes and quickly explained why it pertains to the genre instead of watching his spend 5 to 10 minutes trying to find the perfect sound for each part. Or 3 minutes EQing an additional wav or sound file to layer onto the kick. But I appreciate the guys technical ability and time put forward into making this series, its just not worth the time in my opinion when there are others who explain things in a much more concise and contextual way.

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by from interesting Started off by saying he wouldn't use third party plugins, and used more third party than logic plugins. Quite a few actions performed were not explained in any detail. All in all though this was a worth a watch.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by from Ear Opening I'm not even really a big trance fan, but I'm finding this tutorial very informative from a sound design perspective. I'll definitely use some of these techniques in the music I make.

Rated 1.5 out of 5 by from Mwah.. There are better tutorials to find on Youtube with realy inspiring tracks and more importantly: the overal sound (end mix) is not club worthy. Sorry, don't waste your time on this.
