    Comping Improvements (9:24)

Chock full of new features, Presonus expert Bill Edstrom walks you through all the new enhancements in Studio One 3.2 and demonstrates how you can use them in your sessions!

Bill starts with an exploration of the new Console Shaper, the first new Mix Engine effects processor included with Studio One and how to use it to sweeten your sound with analog console emulation.

Next, Bill demonstrates how you can use the new VCA Faders to create mixing groups and how to use the new VCA Folder Tracks feature to create a VCA for all the tracks in a folder for better control when mixing.

From there, Bill explores all the new Tab-to-Transient modifiers, and changes to the Smart Arrow, QuickZoom, and Automation Bracket tools. After that, he covers the new Track Console Sync and Transport options.

Bill now focuses on Selecting and Dragging improvements such as how to use the new Select to Start or Select to End commands. From there, Instrument Part to Audio Event and dragging effects around is discussed.

Moving on, Bill teaches you quick ways to open the Channel Editor and access new Appearance options. Finally, he covers the improvements to Comping and how to incorporate them in your workflow.

Studio One 3.2 Update Expaained

I have been investing in Groove 3 videos for a while now so it is no surprise that as usual all their products are excellent and well worth the price of admission. This is just as excellent as all their products. This video is great and has presented everything very well . Clear concise explanations. I just watched all of these a few times in succession and just started using all the features almost immediately. I often refer back if I forget some features or generally need refresher courses in the software. Or just want to know how to do something. It will usually be one of the videos. They come out fast too soon after new updates and upgrades.

1. When did you start dabbling in music?

I started on trumpet at age 10, but got more passionate when I picked up bass and guitar in high school. During college, I had a band where I shared lead vocals and electric guitar duties. After that I was in a variety of bands usually on bass or behind the mixing board.

2. What training have you had?

I studied electrical engineering in college but mostly learned recording and music on my own. Recently, I completed the Master of Songwriting and Guitar program through Berklee Music.

3. When did you get into recording?

I have always been fascinated with tape recording since fifth grade. I started by recording demos by bouncing back and forth between two cassette decks. Later I moved on to portastudios, ADATS, pro studios, then to a DAW based project studio.

4. People you have worked with/for?

I work with songwriters world-wide as the founder and creator of LilacWriter.com - an online collaboration site for songwriters. In my career, I have done FOH, producing, songwriting, mixing, mastering, and voice over. Used to work regionally, but now requests can come from anywhere in the world.

I've written two books on audio production: "Studio One for Engineers & Producers" and "The Power in Cakewalk SONAR" both published by Hal Leonard Books.

Whenever possible, I work closely with the developers of the products I teach doing testing, bug reporting, and feature requests. I think this gives me a much deeper understanding of the products. I really enjoy seeing the products I work with improve.

5. Why are you so good at training people?

I have always been interested in making technology easier to use and understand. I think showing examples is essential when introducing a topic. I feel recording should be a fun and creative experience and I hope that comes across in my videos.
