Product Overview

RME interfaces include TotalMIX, an incredibly powerful and fully-featured integrated software mixer with amazingly flexible routing options and built-in DSP. RME expert Todd Tatnall shows you how to get the most out of this complex mixer and more.

After a brief Overview and Installation Guide, Todd dives right into an overview of the Mixer and its sections. He then shows you Channel Basics and Settings, before exploring the EQ and Dynamics Sections.

Next, Todd covers the Control Room, showing you how to configure and control your monitoring environment. Todd then spends a couple of videos explaining the Control Strip in detail, including how to use Snapshots, Groups, and Layouts.

Wrapping it up, Todd covers the FX section and Matrix View, and teaches you how to use the Settings and Preferences to customize TotalMIX to your exact needs.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by from Beats reading the manual! TotalMix FX is pretty complex, and while RME provides an excellent manual, it's not necessarily organised in a very user friendly way. More of a technical manual than a user manual. This video clearly runs down about 97% of the options in in TotalMix, as well as a few workflow and creative ideas. It's still mostly technical, and real-world use will have to be fine-tuned by the user in terms of how to musically set things up (while some usage cases are discussed, there's no "here's how to set up for overdubs" or that sort of thing). Not that this is missing all of the Direct Recording functions from the newer RME devices with DURECorder usb drive inputs. Also absent is a section talking about how to integrate TotalMix with a DAW and pros and cons of using it over whatever's built into your DAW for monitoring, or which parts of TotalMix you might want to use in place of what's included in your DAW. That would make the tutorial a lot longer, but really would be helpful, IMHO. Thankfully, lots of these gaps are filled for free on RME's own website.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by from An indispensible video manual Total Mix FX is amazingly comprehensive and equally difficult to understand. The videos produced by RME on their site and on YouTube are completely inadequate for any sort of understanding. This Groove3 video, however, is quite brilliant. Exhaustive and clear. I have purchased it as a download for reference. Congratulations!

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by from VERY THOROUGH AND CLEARLY EXPLAINED! This software can be rather intimidating. However, this tutorial gives you the complete nitty gritty details to help you thoroughly understand every aspect of the software. You need to pause and experiment to really get to grips with it. Once you have, you will never look back. Unless, that is, you need a quick top up!

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by from Great explanations but watch that mouse! I think the explanations were well organized, very clear, and thorough so job well done. That said, I think the visuals could have been better. The mouse pointer is very difficult to see on the TotalMIX window because of the colours involved (black/white pointer on a dark grey window that has many white details) and if you blink, the mouse magically disappears until it's moved and you go "Oh, there it is!" The visuals would have been much easier to follow if the pointer had a coloured halo and the highlighting was animated when the mouse was clicked. Given the effort put into developing the video, I'm really surprised this more-than-a-detail was overlooked. I've had an RME Fireface UC for 7 (?) years now. Fabulous piece of gear. TotalMIX is very, very good, too, although it does have a quirk or two, like why the software playback channels have the names that they do. They seem totally unjustified (e.g. the SPDIF software playback channel seems to have nothing to do with the SPDIF hardware inputs or outputs--unless I'm missing something). I was hoping the video might explain the reasoning for the names but it did not. No big deal but I'm still left wondering...

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by from RME TOTAL MIX EXPLAINED Total Mix may be a little confusing at first until you understand the logic, more so because of all possibilities of features available to control, particularly with RME UFX interface.

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by from A Little too Vanilla for Price RME TotalMix is a piece of software that is flexible depending on RME product purchased. While making a general course is great, there should be additional episodes that cover the various hardware ie Babyface Pro/compatible midi controllers/Ipad integration that interact with TotalMix. A short recording session to show the EQ, echo, compression, and Talkback features would have been very helpful.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by from Good for starting out I enjoyed this video for great basic foundation information about the total mix. Watching it is like reading through the manual so that can be helpful to those who skip that step normally. Please consider doing an intermediate and advanced video showing the record feature from UFX in detail, as well as more example videos for submixing tips, monitor setups, groups, etc. In this video you'll learn what it all means and does, but I am also looking for the next level where we watch it in action through typical use examples.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by from User Friendly Genius The presenter is incredibly talented at showcasing the required material in a user friendly yet laser sharp way...He makes it appear simple; perhaps he's a natural; but I think he also puts a lot of hard work into making his presentation seamless and complete. The only question I had by the end was in regard to attaching a non-RME ADAT equipped preamp. Thank you for demystifying this powerful piece of software!
