Short, consise walkthrough on a typical production job
This video series "protocols" a typical production job where the producer is given a rough sketch take of the final song and is building the product up from scratch. The presenter does a very good job of highlighting his steps, starting with a synced raw track, basic drums, bass, then guitars, tweaks and finally a new vocal track.
Do not expect to find much too many "tricks" or "hidden secrets", this one really is about the workflow, the general approach and giving you a guide to actually getting the job done, leaving the actual work to you.
The videos do not show how the presenter is actually recording takes (they do show him setting up S1 for the takes), comps are only discussed in theory (not the actual comping process). Also, the tedious work "in between takes" has been graciously been left out. However, this is not a critic, since the result (this video series) is a perfect guideline for someone who has never before produced a song based on what seems like "useless fun recording" (which the recording clearly isn't, you just have to know how to deal with it).
To make this even more clear: I welcome this kind of walk-through and prefer it over detail-crazy "tutorials" that run for 8 hours showing and explaining every single mouse click. This one shows WHAT to do, HOW to approach it and WHY (with the result being an honest, direct outcome of what was shown in the videos).
Unfortunately the videos only respect Apple users. Qualifier keys for other OSs are ignored, quite some time is actually spent on Mac workflows, which have no significance for users of more commonly used OSs. Personally I would welcome recordings in higher ("modern") resolution, but that's got nothing to do with the overall value of this series.

Every practical point about production is well explained. This is a 'can't stop watching' series. Very well done Scott. Taking a simple recording from a client and turning it into a fully professional sounding track makes fantastic viewing. Instruction backed up with practical advice and example. Tutorials at their very best, I could watch Scott working all day.
