    Ghostchaining Pt. 2

Now with our ghostchain trigger in place, we will learn how to tune the sidechain compressor.

    EDM EQ Pt. 1

Hi Passing - The most important EDM EQ technique, which is cleaning up "renegade" low end frequencies from sounds that don't need them.

  • image description 8:01

    EDM EQ Pt. 2

Removal of Resonant Frequencies - The second most important EQ technique which is to remove any "congested" or "clogging" frequencies to ensure clarity and separation in your sounds.

    Playthrough Pt. 1

Here we begin a top to bottom playthrough of a nearly completed House track. We look at ensuring your initial session results in a sculpted and believable groove to then build upon.

  • image description 7:36

    Playthrough Pt. 2

With our backbone groove in place we discuss building the tracks arrangement as well as how and when to introduce new sounds.

    Playthrough Pt. 3

Final overview of our completed track including final arrangement decisions, master channel automation, and locking in your final mix.

Product Overview

If you want your EDM tracks to stand out and be instantly recognizable, you need to have your own special “signature” sound. In this video tutorial series, acclaimed EDM producer Chris Herrera shares his techniques for creating your own unique, signature sound.

Chris uses Apple Logic Pro X, but the information covered here works with any DAW. Chris starts off by showing you how to resample and edit your kick drum sounds to create something new and exciting, then teaches you how to slice up and customize loops to make them your own.

Chris now demonstrates how to layer and process multiple synths to make a fat, distinctly personal tone, and then presents his take on Sidechaining called “ghostchaining”.

With demonstrations on how to tune your ghostchain, and how to use multiple sidechain triggers to get really interesting dynamics going in your song, you’ll now be well into your journey of finding your own sound.

Moving on, Chris delves into his use of high pass filtering, a key technique in mixing individual tracks, as well as on summing busses. That leads directly into his bussing technique, including different ways of using busses, and the kinds of effects to use to achieve different goals, depending on the bus.

Finally, Chris builds a House track out of all of the various pieces you’ve creating together over the course of the series. He shows you how to arrange, sculpt, and automate your EDM song to give it that final, personal signature vibe.

Whether you’re new to producing dance music, or an experienced EDM producer looking to find your own signature sound, watch “Produce Signature EDM Tracks” today!

Very interesting video

This was well done, much information packed into the various segments. Should be especially useful to people newer at the EDM game to help give tracks a more pro sound. The EQ and Bussing sections were very interesting. Some of it is information done elsewhere on Groove3 but presented in a slightly different way that I found helpful.

Chris Is An Excellent Teacher

There are a lot of topics covered in this series that flow much like a college audio engineering course. Everything from EQ techniques, side chain compression, bussing, tasteful use of effects etc as well as song arrangement and mindset while creating EDM or really any other style of music. Chris does an excellent job of explaining what he's doing but more importantly WHY he's doing it. He has a way of explaining concepts that are often challenging to understand in a way that is easy to follow and provides you with a fundamental understanding of how the concept in focus is used on the larger scale of music creation so that you can apply it to any number of situations beyond the instance he's using in his example. The topics he covers are applicable in all DAWs, not just Logic which he is using in this series. I primarily use Ableton but have experience in Logic, ProTools and Studio One and can easily understand where everything he covers would exist within each DAW. I'd like to see Chris do some more segments like the ones at the end of this series where he walks through completed tracks and how the arrangement came together. This series is an excellent explanation of fundamental engineering that goes into basically all genres of music recording. I would love to see him put together more segments on the creative side of all these concepts; which ultimately would be more of a songwriting course. All in all, this series is a great review for anyone with a basic engineering background to brush up on audio engineering fundamentals and how to apply them to EDM, and a great first look for beginners with little to no knowledge/experience with audio engineering. I went through two years of a college audio engineering course and still found cool new ideas from watching this series. I would recommend this series to producers/musicians of any level.

Most useful Tutorial i've found in a long time.

This is all about how to help you make and find, your own sound in EDM, how to start creating your own subtle identity, and separate your tracks from the humdrum, through great technical and philosophical concepts and methods. (It actually goes against a lot of "how to make EDM" masterclasses on this site, and many others... beyond cut/paste/EQ formulas aimed to mimic "generic" EDM.) Right from building your own distinctive kick, upwards and on throughout your mix. (As he points out, experienced producers and musicians will pick up on most library and stock/ downloaded presets and elements you're using. That will be a mark against you, no matter how well your track is put together.) This series is best for those who already know the basics, and are ready to start building their own "sound". If you want to just copy others, and get by, maybe look elsewhere.. but if your serious about building an identity into your music, and taking it to the next level, this is definitely worth it. P.S. This all applies to any type of EDM but ALSO, any music you make, that incorporates computer generated or electronic, elements and sounds.
