Great

Really useful tutorial. One thing....the video scoring tutorial towards the end...I'm not sure having a constantly changing tempo like this would be very pleasant!

Terrific videos!

Amazing job, George!! Notion has a gentle learning curve and these videos by George Hess are thorough, to the point, and easy to follow. They will enable you to start composing with Notion from day one. One suggestion: let us hear the output a bit more often during the videos. Correction: Notion supports Japanese, not Chinese.

1. When did you start dabbling in music?

Dabbling? I guess I’ve been “dabbling” in it all of my life.

2. What training have you had?

I have a doctorate and masters from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelors degree from Berklee.

3. When did you get into recording?

I’m not really a recording engineer, but I’ve been involved with electronic music and music technology since the mid 70s.

4. People you have worked with/for?

I’m in my 10th year as Associate Professor of Music Technology at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore. I was also at Central Michigan University for 10 years. I’ve gigged with lots of people both professionally and as part of my teaching gigs. Some notables include James Morrison, Bob Mintzer, Jim Nabors, the Osmonds, Myron Floren and Ryo Kawasaki.

5. Why are you so good at training people?

I’ve had lots of practice. I’ve been teaching at universities for over 25 years and privately for 10 years or so before that.
