Preparing the Mix Pt. 111:06
In this video, Larry discusses creating a vision for the mix and making sure you have a clear idea as well as setting the correct gain staging, color coding, grouping and bussing.
Preparing the Mix Pt. 29:17
Larry evaluates the tracks and removes plosives from vocals using Logic X?s region processing function.
Levels & Panning20:17
In this video, Larry sets the overall levels of the mix and pan positions.
Filtering & Subtractive EQ Pt. 17:06
Larry uses Pro-Q 2 to remove high and low frequencies from sounds to focus them and ensure the correct sounds occupy the correct space.
Filtering & Subtractive EQ Pt. 220:34
Larry picks up where he left off in the last video and increases the size and depth of the mix.
Filtering & Subtractive EQ Pt. 314:25
Larry finishes up the filtering and subtractive EQ.
Compression Pt. 111:09
Larry uses functional compression using Pro-C 2 to tame unruly peaks. He explores using fast attack and release times and using the ratio and threshold to dial in the correct amount of gain reduction.
Compression Pt. 2 - Layered Compression13:27
In this video, Larry layers compressors to increase solidity and get the most out of his sounds.
Compression Pt. 3 - Positional Compression18:23
Positional Compression - Larry uses fast and slow attacks to help position sounds in the front/back perspective. He also shows how to use musical release times to create groove movement in the mix.
Additive EQ & Harmonic Saturation Pt. 110:11
Using Pro-Q 2, Larry pushes sounds so they reach out of the speakers or sink back in the speakers. He then creates separation between elements using additive EQ ans uses Saturn to drive certain frequency ranges to increase density.
Additive EQ & Harmonic Saturation Pt. 218:41
Larry picks up where he ledt off in the last video and uses Saturn to drive certain frequency ranges to increase density.
Spatial Effects Pt. 19:16
Larry explores early reflections and other ways of adding spatial effects and discusses compressing reverb returns.
Spatial Effects Pt. 214:49
Larry continues where he left off in the last video and continues exploring spatial effects.
Spatial Doubling Effects5:15
Larry creates pseudo harmonies and tracked vocals using stock Logic plug-ins.
Reverb Pt. 114:25
In this video, Larry uses Pro-R to add a sense of space to the mix. He also creates the front back perspective using verb and adding effects to accentuate this effect.
Reverb Pt. 213:41
Larry Continues the process from the last video for all instruments in the mix.
Larry uses Pro-DS to tame sibilant sounds. He also uses Pro-DS going into effects chains.
Parallel Compression & Saturation Pt. 111:08
In this video, Larry pumps up the mix using heavy compression and saturation using Pro-C 2 and Saturn in parallel. He then EQs these parallel chains using Pro-Q 2 to add density to certain frequency areas.
Parallel Compression & Saturation Pt. 29:26
Larry coninues from the point he left off in the last video.
Larry automates the mix elements so that everything has space to breathe and he keeps the listeners focus clearly.
Mix Stem Processing14:30
In this video, Larry uses groove enhancing compression to draw the most amount of juice out of the mix stems using Pro-C 2.
In these in-depth video tutorials, studio pro Larry Holcombe shows you how to use FabFilter's amazing plug-ins to mix a track from start to finish. Shot in Logic Pro X, the information is applicable to any DAW and will show you how to use FabFilter plug-ins effectively and creatively.
Larry starts off by welcoming you and sets the stage for the video series, outlining what to expect, and gives you a play through of the cool 80's inspired song that will be mixed.
Larry then jumps in and covers important topics such as how to prepare your song for mixing, and setting levels and panning. He then gets into filtering and additive EQ, followed by different kinds of compression techniques.
Using spatial effects, doubling backing vocals, reverb and saturation in the mix are then all demonstrated using FabFilter plug-ins including Pro-Q 2, Pro-C, Pro-R, Pro-DS and others!
Automation and Mix Stem Processing are then shown, wrapping up the series and producing a professional mix that you can be proud of.

Nothing but the best
I cannot get enough of this training. The way of explanation, the workflow and the overall vibe is so good. Most importantly, it is not just hollow tutorial following blind rules. It is practical approach and the result is quite evident in the finished mix. Great job!!

This tutorial is one of the best out there by far for mixing. Not only does he show you how to use the Plug ins he goes into explanation in why he is doing his mixing choices. You do not even have to use the plug ins mentioned in the video rather any plugin will work (although I also Fabfilter.) The instructor shows how even the smallest mixing practices are usually the secret to a solid, polished track. Excellent for anyone just starting out or seasoned pros who want to refine their knowledge.
