Mike Marshall Mandolin Fundamentals for All Players Pt. 1
Product Overview
In this incredible Homespun lesson taught by one of the greatest mandolinists of our time, Mike Marshall shows every mandolin player from beginner to experienced professional, how to become a better musician through proper technique, problem solving, and a systematic exercise regimen.
Mike's approach to mandolin starts with the basics: How to hold it, play with correct posture, get great tone, and eliminate tension and other impediments by using proper hand and pick positions. Mike's exercises will also help you improve your up and down strokes, and give you the strength, speed and dexterity you'll need to develop a strong and accurate right hand.
Mike will then show you powerful "Fingerbuster" exercises that will build your physical abilities while increasing your command of the mandolin fingerboard. He methodically works with you on scales, chord shapes and arpeggios, giving you workouts on every string and in every position. You'll then learn to visualize the fretboard as a geometric pattern, and turn these exercises into a unique musical experience.

It's fun!
Mike walks you through the basics of Mandolin technique. As the title indicates, it is fundamentals but not only for beginners. Actually, the pace is fast enough such that also at an intermediate level you can still enjoy this and benefit a lot, probably even more than an entire beginner. I can't tell if it is any good for really advanced players, as I am not. Personally, I found the instructions for the right hand, especially for the tremolo most useful. Watching this, you feel comfortable with your instrument. In that sense, it doesn't feel like musics classes often do. I assume this is what makes Mike Marshall a very good teacher. He speaks in a clear and relaxed way, very pleasant, with a good mixture of humour and seriousness. I look forward to the second part.
