Product Overview

In this vintage Homespun series, Andy LaVerne explores six familiar jazz standards, illustrating chord changes, voicings, embellishments, and improvisational ideas!

He first teaches a basic version of each song, and then moves into a more complex rendition while recording it on the Yamaha Disklavier.

He plays the disk back at half-speed, giving a detailed explanation of the music as the piano keys move up and down on their own. Since his fingers are not on the keys, you can see every note played as the key is depressed.

Andy then dissects the tune harmonically, reforming the chordal structure while keeping the original melody. This reharmonization opens up the creative potential of chord voicings.

Finally, Andy composes a fresh melody over the original chord structure to create a new song. You’ll soon be playing and improvising these jazz standards: “Just Friends,” “My Romance,” “How Deep Is the Ocean,” “Night and Day,” “Body and Soul,” and “Like Someone in Love.”
