Not all about what the title suggests

I was looking for a more in depth series on the software itself. I've been recording and mixing for nearly 30 years so I didn't need to see someone else approach to mixing. Although some items were covered, a great deal was simply not.

Good introduction

This is a good introduction to using Mixbus 5. It should be noted, however, that unless you're a complete beginner to digital audio production, Harrison Mixbus is not all that different compared to other DAW:s when it comes to basic functionality and workflow. If you're used to working in Cubase, Sonar, Logic or any other DAW, you'll quickly get the hang of Mixbus by just playing around with it. The unique features, i.e. the mixing console, are more a matter of understanding signal flow than understanding specific knobs and buttons. Nevertheless, I love to watch DAW tutorials as a form of edutainment, and this one is definitely a good one. Not the least, I appreciate seeing a tutorial dedicated to a DAW that is available in a native Linux version (although the tutorial is made using a Mac).

I am a: Hobbyist, Musician, Cakewalk Sonar, Cubase, Reaper

Very superficial

I bought this video in order to learn about the functionality of Harrison Mixbus 5 (as the title suggests) without having to read the manual. Unfortunately, this aspect is only explained superficially, the author spends about half of the time showing how to use the 3 channel-compressor-knobs, EQ and saturation, again and again. If you have no clue about compressing drums or bass, this video might be ok, but if you want to know how to handle the DAW you're better off watching Youtube or reading the manual. For me this tutorial (with this title) is a disappointment or it should honestly be named: "Mixing for beginners with Harrison Mixbus 5".

Very useful

I have been using DAWs for, err, well, since long before the Millennium. But I have only just started to use Mixbus. This set of videos helped me get up to speed with Mixbus and the few queries I had were very rapidly addressed by the producers. Recommended. I give it my top rating. 5 stars would require utter perfection and a version covering the -C version so it gets 4.5 :)

Harrison Mixbus 5 Explained

I came to Mixbus from Cakewalk SONAR because Cakewalk was sold and I lost all my lifetime free updates. I started using Mixbus and soon realized that there is a learning curve to overcome even though most of the DAWs are virtually acting te same. I needed help in understantings some aspects of the software and that's when I grabbed the Groove 3 video as soon as I saw it. It definitively sped up the understanding and I can now use it with ease.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by from Very good tutorial What I like about this video is the content and the teacher's voice tone is quiet and respectful. Since I'm a french Canadian, it is easy to understand the English accent of the teacher but sometime I have to rewind the video to make sure. Also, the teacher goes straight to the point. He doesn't lost time to talk about his life or any other audio experience he has in the pass that will lost time to talk about it. I didn't finish to view the whole course yet but I will because there is good content and helpful for anyone. Harrison offer me to buy this video course at $10. It is a very good deal. Please, take the time to buy the video at this price. Has a music teacher myself, I know what it is to built a video tutorial. It takes time and it is to help people using their software and get better production. I'm glad having it and feel good buying it. Thank you Groove3 and Harrison!

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by from Very good explanation Very good explanation of the way how to handle a project in Mixbus. A good example in how a workflow in Harrison is set up, which is very different from "classic" DAW's, since it has a very close resemblance of the actual hardware. I liked the part where the mastering on the mixbus was explained, the first time I think this was covered in a video. The fact that the entry product was used (with eight busses and 3 band eq) helps to show this is a real DAW and you can use it to do real productions. I learned a lot from it and Harrison Mixbus DAW will be used a lot more in the near future for my own productions.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by from Could you please add close captioning? It would be much more convenient if there is a closed captioning as in YouTube. Or better - open captioning. That way I can focus on the meaning easier. I can switch off the sound and watch on the video reading the text. Also if I can copy/paste the text it would be nice - can keep track and make my notes. Also watching videos is not very convenient.

Rated 4.0 out of 5 by from Good overview of Harrison Mixbus features. This was helpful for me as I desire to learn !it's about the various DAW programs and the features they offer. I am ok with the occasional mistake, such as mistakenly calling the reverb an eq, or calling the h/p filter a "high cut". But there's an awful lot of incidents where the presenter is speaking over the demo audio. And I'll be honest, the gain staging portion is a low point. Not good. And Still, I'll go with four stars. It wanders into mixing where it should IMO have stuck to feature presentation though.

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by from although very anxious the quality of the narrators voice and also of the audio tracks is (sorry!!) poor. and I am tired to her at the end of every and almost each sentence the word "awesome".... Pleas don't think that I want to offend someone!! But being one of the first clients of th very well made groove 3 platform, I would expect a bit more quality for the fee I pay each year. I think that the narrators earn money with their work and so the quality of the instructors talking (and the used tracks - they sound like 128kb mp3) should be definitely better than all of these youtube blogs and series, which are free. Especially when presenting a DAW who's strength and power is the sound quality, needs well sounding tracks to show the benefit of using and buying the product. Sorry for my honest words but they should d help to keep the quality of groove 3.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by from Great introduction to a great DAW I recently purchased Mixbus 5 as an upgrade from v.4, which I had not really made much progress with, despite watching the Harrison tutorial videos available. The instructor of this course and the format it is presented in really allowed me to grasp the essentials of using this DAW, and it's handy having the files used in the video series to practise along with. Thank you very much!
