    Heavy 808 Bass

  • image description 8:23

    Sub Bass

This video covers a simple, yet important, Sub Bass patch that can be layered with the other patches from this course to add fullness and impact to your drops. This tutorial also covers how to make full sounding subs though effects processing.

Chapter 2 : Chords

  • image description 13:25

    Soft Keys

Learn how to transform a simple sine wave style oscillator into an ambient keyboard sound using pitch modulation, chorus, and reverb. This patch is great for use as a melodic chord sound in an intro or breakdown.

  • image description 12:50

    Detuned Keys

In this video, lean how to make a detuned keys sound for the drop section of your tracks. This patch makes use of heavy detuning and wavetable modulation to get a ghostly sound.

    Super Saws Pt. 1

Watch how to make a modulated super saw patch. This video covers how to layer different synths to create a super saw sound and the effects processing used to carve out space for each layer.

  • image description 12:20

    Super Saws Pt. 2

In the second part of this video, you'll see how to add a bass layer to the super saws and how effects are used for adding clarity and punch to the sound, plus learn how to create a sidechain effect using the utility plugin inside of Ableton.

  • image description 10:06

    Hyper Saws Pt. 1

This video shows how to create a thick hyper saw synth patch. Learn how the different layers of Serum are used to create a cohesive synthesizer patch.

  • image description 12:05

    Hyper Saws Pt. 2

Now that the different layers of the hyper saws are in place, explore how dynamics processing and distortion are used to create full sounding hyper saws. This video also includes the types of chord progressions that are used on hyper saws.

Chapter 3 : Leads

  • image description 11:01

    Drop Arp Lead

Noe see how to make a compressed arpeggio lead sound for a drop section that utilizes white noise to create a distortion effect and multi band dynamic processing to add crunch.

  • image description 11:19

    Textured Lead

In this tutorial, learn how to use the noise oscillator in combination with wavetable oscillators to create a textured lead sound. This sound can be used in a drop or breakdown section.

  • image description 10:44

    Saw Lead

In this final video, watch how to create a saw lead that can be used for alternate sections of a drop. This lead features custom envelopes created with the LFO in Serum for additional sound shaping and character.

Product Overview

Sound design pro Thomas Cochran delivers in-depth Future Bass sound design video tutorials that show you how to create the sounds that drive this popular genre, plus gives you the skills needed to create new sounds for your productions. These videos are designed for beginner Future Bass producers or anyone looking for an introduction to how these sounds are made.

Throughout the videos Thomas uses MASSIVE X and Serum, two of the the most popular virtual instruments for Electronic Music production to show you how to craft the sounds that make Future Bass. But, any modern wavetable synth can also be used to make these sounds, so the info shown in the videos translates well to other wavetable synths.

Thomas begins the course with Bass patches, and you'll see how to craft both a heavy 808 Bass patch and a huge Sub Bass patch from scratch, as well as what to do and what not to do when sorting your Bass sounds for the Future Bass genre. Then it's on to the Chords, and you'll learn how to fabricate killer keys including an ambient patch great for intros or breakdowns, detuned keys for a ghostly vibe, and both Super and Hyper Saw presets for when you want to get down to business.

Moving on you'll also see how to make an arpeggiated lead sound perfect for your drops, a textured lead designed for breakdowns, and last but not least, a powerful saw lead to use for alternate sections of a drop.

I need more 'why'

I learned a lot if I took the time to think about what I was doing. But the instructor tended to give a lot of numbers, without explaining why I was performing each step. What should I expect from each tweak?

I am a: Hobbyist, Musician, Producer, Studio One

Thomas Cochran electronic musician and multi instrumentalist from Austin Texas, who now lives in Los Angeles. He focuses on creating electronic music that features both ambient and classical influences.

1. When did you start dabbling in music?

I started playing music at a young age, starting with classical guitar. This started my love for music and eventually expanded into learning other instruments as well. To date, I have had over ten years of classical experience and training as well as additional instrumental experience.

2. What training have you had?

I grew up studying classical guitar and composition and eventually started applying my classical knowledge to learning other instruments as well, ranging from violin, cello, keys, and drums.

3. When did you get intro recording?

I got into recording out of necessity when me and some friends started a band back in high school and couldn't afford studio time. Through this, I learned about music production and recording and haven't looked back since.

4. Why are you so good at training people?

I love learning about the technical aspects of music production, this helps me understand the how music production works under the hood. I have also worked for several years creating music production tutorials online.
