    First Beat

Next let's capture our first idea. We will use our first group for a drum set, record a performance, and then quantize it to make it a little more perfect. We will follow up that performance with note repeat for the hats and finish the video with a couple different variations.

  • Step Sequence 9:20

    Step Sequence

Now let’s talk about individual samples. We can use any sample that both come with MASCHINE or that we might have in our sound library. Then, we can use a step sequencer to capture our idea.

  • Adding Chords 5:50

    Adding Chords

In this video let’s talk about melodic instruments. MASCHINE makes it easy for anyone to add ideas. We will dive into keyboard mode to get the different steps in the scale. Then, using chord mode, we can play chords that work well together. Using these tools we will add a chord idea.

  • More Melodic Ideas 7:44

    More Melodic Ideas

Let's add to what we already have and create some more melodic ideas to round out the song. We will take advantage of the arpeggiator and its powerful features.

  • Adding a Bass Line 6:30

    Adding a Bass Line

Using what we learning in the previous video, let’s add a bass line.

  • Sampler 7:18

Next let’s talk about sampling. We can capture any instrument or sound to use in our song. After selecting some samples that ship with MASCHINE lets edit them by changing the speed, pitch, and start and end points to make them work better within our song.

  • Adding Effects 10:24

    Adding Effects

Now we can start modifying and enhancing our ideas. We can add utility style effects such as EQ, Compression, and Transient Shaper. We can also add creative style effects like Reverb, Delay and Bit Crusher. These effects can go on individual sounds, Groups or the master bus. To finish the video we will go over creating a send so multiple instruments can share an effect.

  • Arrangement 9:25

We have all our ideas, let’s start creating a song. We will use Scenes to make the different sections of the song. We can use both the software and he hardware controller.

  • Getting a Mix 9:44

    Getting a Mix

Next we can start to make all these ideas work together. We will using the mixer to balance our parts with volume and also panning. MASCHINE allows us to mix individual sounds in a group and then mix the groups together. We will also take a look at automation to create variation and interest.

  • Exporting 5:49

Finally, we will get our ideas out of MASCHINE so we can share them or mix in a separate DAW. We will make sure clipping and distorting isn’t an issue. Then we will start the export process. We can do individual ideas and sounds or the entire song as a finished product.
