Product Overview

In this Homespun video tutorial series, master thumbpicker Happy Traum reveals ways to develop and keep your groove steady and in-time.

The ability to keep a beat going is one of the main stumbling blocks for many learning fingerpickers. In this series, Happy teaches you this technique, starting off with the monotonic, or "dead thumb" bass, played on just the low E string.

Through a series of exercises, Happy helps you develop a solid sense of time before gradually adding treble notes on different beats of each measure.

Before long, you'll be playing some really cool blues licks, scales, riffs, double stops, and melodies, all while keeping the beat going with your thumb.

Happy then moves on to the basics of alternating bass thumbpicking, giving you another essential technique to add to your repertoire and preparing you for future fingerpicking studies.
