Product Overview
Arturia has brought the venerable Oberheim SEM (Synthesizer Expander Module) to life in virtual form, and synthesizer wiz Sami Rabia teaches you all about this phat sounding virtual synth and how to use it to build sounds from scratch in your DAW!
Sami begins by exploring the Oberheim SEM V GUI layout, Preset Management System, and how to use MIDI Learn to control it’s parameters from your controller. Then he dives right into the Oscillators, demonstrating how to use all the Waveform Variations, Sync, and Detuning.
Next, Sami shows you how to use the included LFOs, including the waveform shapes and extra controls only found on LFO2. That leads into videos exploring the Filters and Envelopes, and how you can further shape the tone by driving the output using the Soft Clipping function.
Sami then provides in-depths explanations of the built-in effects, arpeggiator, and portamento sections. After that, it’s time to explore the hidden top panel, with videos on the Keyboard Follow, Voice Programmer, and Matrix windows. You’ll learn how these windows combine to let you “re-program” the SEM V in unique and distinctive ways!
Finally, Sami shows you how to build your own sounds from scratch using the Arturia Oberheim SEM V. He shows you how to build deep and punchy bass sounds, vintage lead sounds, rich and immersive pad sounds, and how to contour your synth patches using the built-in effects section.
Whether you’re new to Arturia Oberheim SEM V, or an experienced user looking to get the most out of this unique instrument, don’t miss “Arturia Oberheim SEM V Explained”!

Love the SEM :-)
Nice tutorial However at the end creating sounds, it would have been better to play a sound and say we want to create this sound. Then work through the process of creating it rather than just randomly twiddling and saying ahhh that's what Imp after. also doesn't mention which version of the SEM this is, mine looks very different to the one in the tutorial, but still the way its all presented gives you the chance to hunt around for the right option..

Great instructor
I’m not too impressed with some of the instructors at Groove3, but this one is one of the best in my opinion. Clear and detailed and shows of some great examples on what you can du with this synth. After watching some of the videos I immediately had to test some new ideas for my self.

This is worth watching.
Sami (the instructor) absolutely NAILED this explanation series! The Oberheim SEM is covered in its entirety with no aspect of the synth being left untouched. Not only is this series informative but it's also entertaining and I really enjoyed following along with the instructor as he manipulated the synth with a very tactical yet stylish approach. There's a lot of information in this series that can be applied to sound designing with any synth but this course most certainly does accomplish its task of teaching the viewer how to use the SEM specifically. After viewing this series I'm very confident that I can effectively use the Oberheim SEM. Thank you Sami and Groove3 for sharing this information with us.

Very good indeed.
A very thorough, in depth look at Sem V without being bogged down by being too technical.

Oh yes, read between the lines...
...not your average "explain" video for sure. Sami Rabia brings a wealth of real world to the usual description of oscillators and modifiers. Excellent and high quality. I look forward to what he presents us with next.

Great tuition from someone who knows the product i
Finally ; A video tuition series done by not only an instructor with a great instruction method, but from an instructor who obviously knows the product inside out. These videos were very easy to follow due to their clear, straightforward, knowledgable and confident instruction style, and also remained entertaining enough to keep me interested throughout. But most importantly ..., all the examples given were very expertly crafted and MUSICAL. This was unlike some other Groove 3 videos i've watched lately where i got the feeling the instructor had only just read the manual themselves 5 minutes earlier before recording their videos , or gave poor cheesy , or non musical examples. I hope to see more groove 3 videos from this instructor in the future.
