    Tutorial 1

    Introduction

    4:17

Let's set up Push 2 and take a quick tour of the instrument.

  • image description

    Tutorial 2

    The Browser

    5:35

The browser is where we find instruments, sounds, effects, and samples. We can preview and load up anything on our computer.

  • image description

    Tutorial 3

    Playing Drums

    5:44

Working with drums on Push is a dream. We'll go over what all the colors mean and how to swap sounds in and out.

  • image description

    Tutorial 4

    Recording Drums

    7:57

We can record a performance and with the touch of a button immediately overdub. Quantizing is amazingly simple too.

  • image description

    Tutorial 5

    Sequencing Drums

    9:22

Not only can we record a performance, we can step sequence drums as well. Once the steps have been created we can go back and modify timing and velocity.

  • image description

    Tutorial 6

    Playing Melodies

    9:27

Loading a melodic instrument completely changes Push 2's interface. We will discover how to play scales, chords, and how to change keys and scales.

  • image description

    Tutorial 7

    Sequencing Melodies

    7:34

Once a melody or chord pattern has been recorded we can go back and modify those note's timing, length and velocity. We will also touch on navigating through a set.

  • image description

    Tutorial 8

    Working with Samples

    5:24

There are three modes depending on what kind of content we're working with: Classic, One-Shot, and Slicing.

  • image description

    Tutorial 9

    Simpler Modes

    13:01

Let's take a deeper look at each mode. Each one allows us to work with a sample in a different way.

  • image description

    Tutorial 10

    Deeper Into Simpler

    4:47

Simpler's magic really comes from its ability to warp samples. Let's see how that works with Push 2.

    Tutorial 11

    Finding the Perfect Sound

    9:20

In this video we will explore adding and using Audio and MIDI effects.

Ableton’s flagship hardware product Push 2 and Live 9 are a marriage made in heaven, and Live expert Scottie Dugan demonstrates how you can use them to write and perform, as well as make your tracks and beats bump!

After Scottie introduces Ableton Push 2 he shows you around the Browser and how to Navigate Push 2. H then covers how to Play, Record and Step Sequence Drums and Beats. But Push isn’t just a rhythm tool… Scottie shows you how to Create, Record, and Step Sequence Melodies using Push.

Scottie then dives deep into working with Samples, and Ableton Live’s unique sampler, Simpler. He explores how Push 2 can be used to work in Simpler’s three different modes: Classic, One-Shot, and Slicing, and how Push 2 can be used when you’re warping samples. Finally, Scottie demonstrates how you can Mix and Automate your projects using Push 2.

Just perfectly done!

The most important aspects to a video tutorial are 1) the guys voice has to be nice to listen to - this guy, Dugan, is great on that front. - that eli kraston guy is intollerable to listen to. 2) the audio examples in the tutorial have to be likable - there's nothing worse than a tutorial where the guy passes by nice sounding samples and chooses a screaming dentist drill sound you have to listen to over and over for the next 3 hours. 3) the tutorial should be concise and not 5 hours long - longer is not better -this one is great for that also. 4) even dugans hands are nice - let's face it, the only thing visible besides the Push2 are the guy hands, which are again, nice to look at - very important! I also have the AskVideo Push2 tutorial and the guy (Darius something) fails on every point including that his hands are just gross. Dugan just nails it here and is in fact so good, that I also purchased his Ableton Live 10 Explained video tutorial.

1. When did you start dabbling in music?

I grew up taking classical piano lessons, so music has always been a part of my life. It started out as a daily chore and eventually evolved into a passion. Now I am very lucky to call it my profession.

2. What training have you had?

After thirteen years of private piano lessons I decided to pursue a formal degree. Two years in and I realized it wasn't for me. From that point on a began teaching myself and taking various online courses that offered subjects that excited me. I've gotten to learn and sit under individuals who are way better than I am.

3. When did you get into recording?

Ableton Live and the ability to make music with a computer were the two biggest reasons I didn't continue pursue a formal degree. I was in a band, we cut a DIY "garage album" and that started the obsession. The once obscured world of synths, hardware and software was now overwhealming as I transitioned away from a piano only mindset.

4. People you have worked with/for?

I have the great privilege to be working with Ableton as one of their Ableton Certified Trainers. Being a part of that community has been really amazing and life changing. I have yet to work with anyone rich and famous... but I have a feeling one day some of these crazy talented people will be. I get to work with students and artists who are chasing their musical dreams. I like the purity and passion that comes with that.

5. Why are you so good at training people?

Well, I've always been told that I'm a good teacher but I hated talking to people I didn't know. It took a while to get over those introvert tendencies and fear of public speaking and now I can't get enough. Watching a student get that lightbulb breakthrough or seeing an ignition of passion after the transfer of knowledge creates such a sense of fulfillment for me. I can't not teach.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by from Best value for money course I found on the internet My conclusion for this series is that it is good value for money. I base this on my own comparison of this Ableton Push 2 course with two other (payed) Ableton Push 2 courses. The reason that I looked in so many courses, is because I was not completely satisfied with this one on Groove3. My main complaint is that it goes to fast for me. This means that I have to rewind a lot. This makes it uncomfortable to watch. Also, for me sometimes things are not explained enough and are only mentioned. But, I have to say, most of the time, everything is explained well. On the positive side is that there is a lot of information packed in these video's. As I said, it all goes fast, but this also means that there is a lot of information in a short time. With respect to my comparison with two other payed websites I think that this course on Groove 3 ends up second place (of the three) which means that it is not the best course I found, but certainly not the worst either. Furthermore, the course that I find to be the best is also much more expensive than this one on Groove3. Therefore, I think that for most people the course on Groove3 is the best value for money. If you do not care that much about the price and really want an excellent course, then you should look further on the internet, because I found such a course. (I am not mentioning here which one, because that doesn't seem fair and I am sure you can find it yourself) Conclusion: buy if you want best value for money, but if you want the best course I could find for a higher price, then look further on the internet.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by from Just perfect Teaching is a under appreciated skill. Being able to break down to fundamentals is really not easy. Scott delivers an incredibly easy to digest package that brought me further ahead than I've been in the last few years of trial and error with ableton. I've been a musician for the last 25 years. I've toured and recorded professionally as a guitarist. I've been hacking my way through new approaches to music making and honestly feel like Scott put me on the right track by rewiring how I see making music in this medium. Thanks Scott and groove3
