Great tutorial for an incredible plug-in!

I'm not one to skim through manuals when i get a shiny new plug-in; maybe i should, but Groove 3 was there for me even in my laziness. I've been using Neutron for a couple months and these tutorial videos really took it to another level for me. i cannot wait to dig in deeper to get better mixes with this plug-in. Thanks G3!

Excellent.

I'll just cover what I think will improve it. * EQ section should have showed learning whilst masking * I feel the compression section could have been covered a lot more comprehensively with more examples. I think they should bolt on another lesson to this. Rushed. * Transient shaper should have covered learn mode. Could have moved the bands around a bit more to give a better overview. Don't get me wrong though, excellent tutorial I'm just hypercritical. Thanks.

Great overview

Just started using Neutron, and very impressed by its power and flexibility. This tutorial is a great way to get a good overview of the software. Most of the typical uses are explained with contextual examples; a few situations I use regularly are explained in theory but not shown with examples (eg. using an external input to trigger a side chain)

Decent Introduction

Was very excited to purchase Neutron, and after diving in raw began craving a deeper understanding. This video does a suitable job in explaining each function, how it fits into one's workflow and the effect it can accomplish over a mix. It begins at a comfortable pace, taking time to explain and elaborate. However the instructor feels rushed midway and through to the end. I was left wishing for more explanation, more time to hear the changes implemented in the sample mix and a fleshing out of situational mixing. In particular features I am not accustom to like multi-band compression. This video does require one to be fairly well acquainted with the mixing process in general, and what different modules do to sound. The instructor assumes this familiarity in the student in many cases. While I was able to keep up with my amateur grasp on the subject, there were times when the narrative began to slip away from me, going over my head. It's not so much a criticism of the instructor, as it is the overall goal of the series itself. If you are already actively mixing with other equipment/software, and would like to learn how to implement Neutron into your workflow, this video is perfect. If, on the other hand, you purchased Neutron as a learning/simplifying tool to aid in developing your skills, you may be left wanting as I am. Neutron is the perfect product for this purpose, and the instructor does hit on this concept, however it would pay to spend time learning basics concerning elements like compression, implementing side chains, and other basic elements of mixing.

Generally a good overview

A worthwhile learning experience. But please dont make adjustments (like the wet/dry EQ controls during a Before and After demo. Also, dont assume making adjustments to the history whilst out of Screenview that we'll know what you've just done.

1. When did you start dabbling in music?

I grew up taking classical piano lessons, so music has always been a part of my life. It started out as a daily chore and eventually evolved into a passion. Now I am very lucky to call it my profession.

2. What training have you had?

After thirteen years of private piano lessons I decided to pursue a formal degree. Two years in and I realized it wasn't for me. From that point on a began teaching myself and taking various online courses that offered subjects that excited me. I've gotten to learn and sit under individuals who are way better than I am.

3. When did you get into recording?

Ableton Live and the ability to make music with a computer were the two biggest reasons I didn't continue pursue a formal degree. I was in a band, we cut a DIY "garage album" and that started the obsession. The once obscured world of synths, hardware and software was now overwhealming as I transitioned away from a piano only mindset.

4. People you have worked with/for?

I have the great privilege to be working with Ableton as one of their Ableton Certified Trainers. Being a part of that community has been really amazing and life changing. I have yet to work with anyone rich and famous... but I have a feeling one day some of these crazy talented people will be. I get to work with students and artists who are chasing their musical dreams. I like the purity and passion that comes with that.

5. Why are you so good at training people?

Well, I've always been told that I'm a good teacher but I hated talking to people I didn't know. It took a while to get over those introvert tendencies and fear of public speaking and now I can't get enough. Watching a student get that lightbulb breakthrough or seeing an ignition of passion after the transfer of knowledge creates such a sense of fulfillment for me. I can't not teach.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by from Neutron is the Bomb Good coverage of a great product. The videos are competent and cover all the bases, but a little more time could have been spent explaining it all. I do understand the rush to get out a competent series on a groundbreaking product and that is what is done here. I do have Neutron as part of the "Creative Bundle 2" from iZotope (look at that bundle and then get it, fantastic!). I find that I use Neutron on most tracks replacing EQ, compression, and saturation/exciter, and in the bargain I am getting better sound and a savings in processor load than from the biggest-name plug-in makers. Many of my tracks now only have Neutron with sends to FX like reverb. There are a couple tracks where I found the need to use something other than Neutron, but those are exceptional cases. Neutron is the best single plug-in for getting each track on the right track, and if you are not an absolute pro, it will guide you in a very good direction with "Track Assist" and "Learn" functions which give you a tremendous starting point. The videos show you where everything is and provide some very useful tips.
