1. When did you start dabbling in music?

I grew up taking classical piano lessons, so music has always been a part of my life. It started out as a daily chore and eventually evolved into a passion. Now I am very lucky to call it my profession.

2. What training have you had?

After thirteen years of private piano lessons I decided to pursue a formal degree. Two years in and I realized it wasn't for me. From that point on a began teaching myself and taking various online courses that offered subjects that excited me. I've gotten to learn and sit under individuals who are way better than I am.

3. When did you get into recording?

Ableton Live and the ability to make music with a computer were the two biggest reasons I didn't continue pursue a formal degree. I was in a band, we cut a DIY "garage album" and that started the obsession. The once obscured world of synths, hardware and software was now overwhealming as I transitioned away from a piano only mindset.

4. People you have worked with/for?

I have the great privilege to be working with Ableton as one of their Ableton Certified Trainers. Being a part of that community has been really amazing and life changing. I have yet to work with anyone rich and famous... but I have a feeling one day some of these crazy talented people will be. I get to work with students and artists who are chasing their musical dreams. I like the purity and passion that comes with that.

5. Why are you so good at training people?

Well, I've always been told that I'm a good teacher but I hated talking to people I didn't know. It took a while to get over those introvert tendencies and fear of public speaking and now I can't get enough. Watching a student get that lightbulb breakthrough or seeing an ignition of passion after the transfer of knowledge creates such a sense of fulfillment for me. I can't not teach.

Ableton Live 9 Explained is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great explanations for beginners I really like this so far. It's not like other courses that still assume you know things already even though it's supposed to be for beginners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear explanations, very professional lots of info Scotty Dugan is a monster! A great instructor who breaks it down clearly and concisely. I have watched them all and this is the best Ableton Live 9 course out there. Great info!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just the basics I already know how to work with Logic Pro X, but I am new to Ableton. It is difficult to give this a rating, because there are positives and negatives which I find difficult to weigh against each other. My points: Positive: Clear explanations, the instructor seems very professional, per time unit spent watching this you learn a lot. Good quality video's. Negative: It is just explaining the basics and some topics are gone over very quickly. This series could have been much longer. I started reading a book and there are lots of details I learn from there which where not really explained in this video series. I would like to see a longer, more in depth series on Ableton Live. Nevertheless, I think I can still recommend it if you just want to get the basics. For the basics, it is very good. But for more in depth, this is not enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much, much better than I expected. As a user who has already spent lots of time over the past 6 months studying Ableton on my own, I thought that I might be wasting my money with this service. Not at all! Even in the early videos on setup and file management, I learned new things. An excellent instructor who explains simply and directly how to use each and every feature of Live. Excellent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Learned alot, good instructor looking to see if Ableton will be a good live setup hub for my keys... well. I don't know yet, but I learned tons about the product. I like that he repeated important as well as difficult concepts.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK to get started with Live This is OK to get started with live, but it is pretty light on many of its subjects. For example the video on racks feels like a rushed afterthought & skips over the drum racks, in particular, way too quickly. Ableton Live 9 Explained? No, Ableton Live 9 Introduced would be a better title.
Date published: 2016-10-04
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Live 9 Live 9 upgrade needed to know what's changes the tutorials was clear and right for me.
Date published: 2016-07-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well done Learned a lot Consistent quality. Very helpful. Thank you.
Date published: 2016-07-10
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Usable Info I've had Live for some time but never went too far beyond dropping clips and playing around. Wanted to learn more. This tutorial is different in that the information given gets you going quickly, without making the presentation seem like a verbal technical manual. I didn't need to know absolutely everything at once ... I needed to know what would get me going and make me productive and then I could find out other things that I needed to know as I needed to know them.
