Videos
• Intro & Playthrough (03:26) - In this first video, Thomas introduces the course and plays though the track that we'll be making.
• Drums (10:34) - Next, we look at what makes good house drums and see how to build them. This will give the song a strong rhythmic foundation, from which we can grow the track.
• Percussion Pt. 1 (09:22) - Discover the percussion patterns commonly found in house music and see how they're used to add complex grooves to a simple drum pattern.
• Percussion Pt. 2 (08:37) - This video wraps up the percussion by adding a customized shaker sound. This patch makes use of the new Bode effects devices in Serum 2.
• Bass (11:52) - Learn how to make a house bass pattern and what types of basses you should use. This video also shows how to take a basic preset and modify it to fit with the song.
• Synth Pad (08:25) - Explore how synth pads are used to fill out house tracks and see how to modify a preset to quickly get a unique patch. This pad will be used to give the production depth.
• Lead Synth (09:16) - See how lead melodies are used in house music to add variation and melodic movement to otherwise simple progressions. This simple lead pattern in the drop makes the song feel much bigger, even though the melody remains minimal.
• Vocal Chops (10:56) - Next, we add a simple vocal chop to the song, which is used to build energy and give a more human element to an otherwise programed song.
• FX (12:32) - We add some final effects to fill out the production. These are used to help transition between the different sections of the song.
• Arrangement & Final Mix (11:50) - Finally, we wrap up the production by arranging out the track and adjusting some final parts of the mix.
