NEXUS5 Explained
If you're looking for one synth to do it all, NEXUS5 could be your synth. In this NEXUS5 video course, synth wiz Stephen O'Connell walks you through every component of this formidable instrument and shows you all you need to know to start using it effectively right away. You'll learn about all the parameters and sections, including the various tabs (Library, Layers, Router, etc.) and all the controls housed within each, so that you'll know enough to start designing your own patches for your next production. These NEXUS5 videos are designed for new NEXUS5 users.
Videos
• Introduction to the Course (04:19) - Welcome to the NEXUS5 course! In this introduction, you'll find out what we're learning, who this course is designed for, what you need to begin, and how to make the most out of the course.
• Becoming Familiar with the Interface & Presets (10:03) - For our first video inside NEXUS5, we'll begin by getting familiar with the interface. We'll explore how the interface is structured and look at a few key controls that live above and below the main work spaces.
• Library Tab Pt. 1 (08:42) - The Library tab is one of the key spaces to find, store, and organize your favorite sounds. In this first video, we look at how the presets are loaded, filtered, favorited, and organized in the center panel of the Library tab.
• Library Tab Pt. 2 (10:11) - The Library tab can do so much more than simply browse presets. In this video, we continue the fun and explore how user bookmarks and presets can be saved and organized, how to find collections of similar sounds, and how to control basic settings in the FX and Layers sections of the preset.
• Layers Tab Pt. 1 (10:25) - Now we're diving into the bulk of NEXUS5?s power; the Layers tab is where you can create and sculpt your sound. In part 1, we learn how the oscillator at the bottom works to generate your sound, as well as what kinds of oscillators and options are available.
• Layers Tab Pt. 2 (13:44) - Synthesis often relies on modulation, and the Layers tab is a great place to begin. In this video, we see how to modulate your sounds and create intriguing sonic explorations along the way.
• Router Tab Pt. 1 (07:01) - The Router tab is where the FX magic happens. In this video, you'll learn how the Main FX block works, how you can add and change effect parameters, and how to modulate your effects for even more variety.
• Router Tab Pt. 2 (09:17) - Here, we're exploring how the routing inside the Router page works to create sub groups, extra layers, split processing, and additional effects processing.
• Mod Tab (13:01) - While you've already seen modulation in a few places, this is where your big, global modulator takes place. Discover how to add LFO controls, pitch bends, vibrato, portamento, and more to your patches.
• Arp Tab (10:14) - You often need to choose between using an arp or a sequencer in synthesis (and may only have access to one or the other), but with NEXUS5, you have a combined arp and sequencer that's incredibly powerful, can be placed per layer or globally, and has easily modulated controls for extra creativity.
• NEXUS2 Tab (06:05) - Offering up plenty of nostalgia, the N2 tab provides the old NEXUS2 view for those who miss the classic synth.
• Creating Your Own Preset (12:23) - To wrap up the course and solidify the knowledge we've discussed, let's look at one final patch creation for the road. In this video, we will build, from the ground up, a new sound that uses multiple layers, FX, and modulation.
