Serum 2 Sound Design: Melodic Instruments
Join veteran Groove3 instructor Thomas Cochran for an informative and inspiring Serum 2 video course in which you'll learn how to build your very own patches from scratch, along with plenty of other useful tips. Along the way, Thomas covers many aspects of this formidable virtual instrument, such as send/return busses, wavetables, sampler modes, spectral oscillators, and more! By the end of this Serum 2 course, you'll be ready to start designing custom sounds for your very next production. These Serum 2 videos are designed for Serum 2 users looking to step beyond stock presets and build their own patches.
Videos
• 80's Synth Brass Lead Pt. 1 (08:19) - Learn to use new wavetables and the sampler mode to build an 80's-inspired lead synth. This patch also shows off the send and return busses.
• 80's Synth Brass Lead Pt. 2 (08:25) - To wrap up the patch, we add some filtering and effects to give the synth that finalized sound. We also see how to use the Mixer section in Serum 2.
• Textured Keys Pt. 1 (07:03) - Discover how the sampler modes are used to create unique hybrid synth sounds. This is a great way of adding unique textures to your patches.
• Textured Keys Pt. 2 (08:11) - This video wraps up the discussion on the keys patch and adds a spectral oscillator for texture. This video also shows how to mix the patch with compression and chorus.
• Spectral Keys (13:22) - Next, we create a synth keys patch with the Spectral mode using the spectral oscillators and stacking effects in the synth.
• Granular Pad (14:57) - Thomas shows how the Granular sound engine can be used to craft advanced synth pads. The granular oscillators let you create complex-sounding pads without the need for complex modulations.
• Wavetable Pluck (14:28) - To wrap up the course, we use the new wavetables to make a melodic synth pluck, also demonstrating how the new phase distortion modifiers are used to add pleasing harmonics.
