Schema: Light Explained

Native Instruments is well-known for creating unique, inspiring virtual instruments, and Schema: Light certainly continues this tradition. In this Schema: Light video course, veteran Groove3 instructor Larry Holcombe walks you through the instrument, teaching you all the parameters and controls, and demonstrating how to create transcendent soundscapes that are perfect for adding depth to electronic productions, film/game scores, and more. These Schema: Light videos are designed for new Schema: Light users.

Schema: Light Overview (04:47) - This video introduces the series and plugin and also outlines the different areas of the interface.
Layers Tab & Browser (08:34) - We discuss the Layers tab and browser next, allowing us to choose source sounds for our four loops. We also view the pattern presets, with which we can quickly access pre-configured sequence ideas.
Layer Edit Pages (09:02) - Next up, we investigate the Slices tab of the Layer edit pages, which is used when creating arpeggiated sequences of varying lengths and order.
Layer Edit Cutoff Panel (07:16) - Learn how to create different sequences using various types of filters with the Layer edit panel's Cutoff panel. We also cover resonance and slur, which can be used to create smooth transitions between cutoff positions.
Layer Edit Decay, Volume, & Pitch (08:54) - Next up, we look at the Decay, Volume, and Pitch panels of the Layers edit page. In this way we can further push the boundaries of what's possible in terms of loop modulation.
Playback & Sends (05:56) - This video covers the playback parameters allowing us to change the tempo and playback direction of our loops and also reverse our samples. We also demonstrate our two send levels, allowing effects to be utilized for each loop.
Mixer Page (04:44) - We cover routing loops to separate outputs and changing their respective levels and panning next.
FX Page (07:45) - Discover the effects we have at our disposal in Schema: Light, which we can combine to really elevate our sounds.
Key Mapping (07:55) - Next up, we continue to look at the Key Mapping page. We can jam with the MIDI keyboard to select any of our three patterns for each loop and change the direction of playback for our loops using the MIDI keyboard.
Key & Scale (05:33) - In this video, we cover how we can use the key and scale option to keep Schema: Light in tune with our backing tracks.
Sound Design Pt. 1 (14:46) - In this video, we create a layered sound using many of the techniques we've learned throughout the series.
