Bitwig Studio 5 Update Explained

If you're curious about the updates to Bitwig Studio 5, look no further! Production expert Gary Hiebner takes you on a detailed tour of all the improvements, reworkings, and additions to this powerhouse DAW, breaking down each component and demonstrating many important features with instructive musical examples. From simple updates in the browser and help menu to new instruments, procedures, and more, you'll be completely up to date after viewing this Bigwig Studio 5 video course. These Bigwig Studio 5 videos are designed for users that have a basic understanding of Bitwig Studio.

Videos
New Browser (07:31) - Gary starts off by explaining the changes to the browser in Bitwig 5 and continues with the new look, new categories, and how the browser pop-up windows are contextually based. Also, we look at the Auto-Complete feature and how to add Quick Source collections.
Show Help (05:58) - Here, we take at the Show Help digital manual and how interactive it is. You can make changes to a device and hear them while reading up on the Show Help details.
Controllers in the Title Bar (02:09) - The Controllers device menu has now been moved to the Title Bar. And in this video you see where to find them and how to view controllers and see what parameters are linked to them.
Curves MSEG (08:05) - Discover the new MSEGs (Multi-Stage Envelope Generators) and see how you can create your own custom modulators and envelopes. We first take a look at the Curves MSEG and how to use it to customize the curve shapes; then we see how we can assign this modulator shape to a parameter.
Modular Grid (03:46) - Explore the Grid in Bitwig and learn how you can build up modular instruments and effects. What's key is that you can also use the new MSGEs in the Grid, which opens up more possibilities with instrument and effect creation in Bitwig.
Reshaping the Curves (01:37) - We dive deeper in to Curves view, and Gary shows you some shortcuts to changing the shapes, along with other options you have to editing the curves in the pop-up viewer.
Segments ADSR MSEG (08:34) - This video takes a look at the Segments MSEG, which features attack, decay, sustain, and release points. You can build a unique ADSR shape that can modulate a parameter and create a loop section in the sustain part of the envelope.
Slopes MSEG (04:14) - This is an MSEG that you can add in the grid as a sequencer to change data passing through it. For example, in this video you'll see how you can use the Slopes MSEG in conjunction with phase modulation.
Scrawl Oscillator MSEG (04:27) - The Scrawl is an MSEG that allows you to create your own oscillator wave shapes. So, you can replace your oscillator sections on your instruments in the grid with the Scrawl MSEG and have a custom oscillator waveform shape.
Polymer Being Able to Load Up MSEGs (01:33) - The Polymer is the one instrument where you can load MSEGs. Seeing as this is a semi-modular instrument, it makes sense that you can load up the MSEGs in it.
Creating Long-Segment MSEGs (05:39) - A unique feature with the Segments MSEG is that you can extend the time on the device, creating super long envelope shapes. And you can use these long shapes to create interesting modulated instruments, such as evolving long pads.
Transfer Grid MSEG (05:28) - The Transfer MSEG can be used in the grid as a freely drawable, segmented wave shaper. It works well as an effect to saturate a sound with a unique wave shape.
Saving Your Curves as BWCurve Files (01:56) - The curve shapes that you create can be saved as BWCurve files, and you can recall these later in other MSEGs. In this video, you'll see how to save your curve shapes and recall them in other MSEGs.
Track & Project Remote Mappings & Project Modulators (06:05) - Discover how you now have remote controls on the tracks and a new project remote controller. Gary shows how we can assign some track and project parameters to these remotes. You'll also learn how you now have modulators that can modulate project parameters now.
Remote Mappings in the Mixer View (02:17) - See how you can map parameters to the remote mappings in the Mixer and how this can help you control your mix.
Keytrack+ (05:17) - Here we take a look at the Keytrack+ MSEG, which monitors incoming note data and either scales it up or down the curve. So, you can map this envelope to a parameter and the modulation will vary depending on the note pitch.
Resizable Steps View in the Grid (02:16) - There have been some updates to some of the modules so that they can be resized in the grid view. In this video, Gary demonstrates the updated modules.
Wavetable LFO (05:30) - We look at the Wavetable LFO next, where you can use a complex waveform shape and then cycle through the wavetable index. This can then be used to modulate a parameter, such as the phase on an instrument.
ALT Trigger Option (07:57) - Discover how to use the new alternate trigger options - either on a project level or on a clip-based level. This adds more complexity to your performances, which is great for live performances or testing out new arrangement ideas.
FreeForm Sound Package (10:17) - Explore the new FreeForm Sound Package, including some of the presets and see how some of the instruments have been built up using the new MSEGs in the instrument signal chain.
Global Side-Chaining with Segments & the Project Modulators (05:24) - In this video, we take a look at how we can use a technique like side-chain ducking with the MSEGs to create a more complex and evolving effect. Gary shows you how to use the Segments MSEG as a project modulator and how this one modulator can side-chain multiple instruments in a project.
