Soundtoys SuperPlate Explained

If you're a fan of plate reverb, you need to check out Soundtoys' SuperPlate plug-in and its incredible wealth of sonic reverby goodness. In this SuperPlate video course, plug-in guru Larry Holcombe takes you on a deep dive through SuperPlate, showing you all of its parameters and providing many helpful usage tips along the way for various musical scenarios. By the end of this SoundToys course, you'll know the reverb inside and out and, most importantly, how to achieve a myriad of to-die-for plate reverb effects in your own productions. These SuperPlate videos are for new SuperPlate users.

Videos
Introduction & Interface (05:06) - This video introduces the series and the ethos of the plugin and outlines the different areas of the interface. We also discuss a brief history of plate reverb.
Reverb Modes & Preamp Drive (11:16) - Learn about the different reverb modes next and also the ways in which we can saturate and compress the reverb using tube and solid state analog-style drive.
Decay Time & Filter (11:48) - Next up, we cover the Decay control and the huge Infinite Decay. We also discuss the filter controls, which allow us to tame the frequency content created by the reverb.
Pre-Delay Time & Modulation (08:53) - This video is concerned with pre-delay and modulation. We demonstrate how to separate the dry sound from the reverb and how to affect our sense of front/back perspective. We also look at subtly thickening the reverb using modulation.
Input/Output Controls & EQ (11:50) - Next up, we really dive into the EQ, Width, and Balance controls. These allow us to really fine tune the frequency content present in the reverb signal and also create a mono reverb, which can help set it back in the mix.
Auto-Decay (07:35) - This video covers Auto-Decay, including the threshold, target, and recovery parameters. Useful for adding pumping/breathing grooves into the reverb signal, it also allows space to be created by ducking the reverb with the input signal.
Tips & Tricks (06:06) - We cover a few additional ideas for creative play with SuperPlate: automating decay times, playing though infinite decay times, and chaining Soundtoys plugins together.
