Reason: Designing Bass Sounds

Join DAW expert Thomas Cochran for a fun, inspiring Reason video course on designing heavy-hitting bass sounds with Reason. As most electronic genres rely on a solid, effective low end, getting your bass tones right is critical, and this tutorial will teach you how to do just that. From house to EDM and more, you'll find plenty of applications for the techniques and concepts learned in this course. These videos are for Reason users that are new to the concept of sound design.

Videos
Europa Sine Reese (16:28) - Learn how to make a heavy Reese bass using phasing and sine compression. This technique allows for extra clean-sounding distortion.
Europa Soft Reese (12:20) - This patch uses some of the concepts from the previous video and uses them to create a soft Reese bass. This type of sound is excellent in the breakdown of EDM tracks or even a trap production.
Malström Bass (13:05) - Discover how to use Malström’s hybrid of wavetables and granular synthesis to create a bass with a rich, distorted low end and a percussive top end quality.
Monotone House Bass (12:19) - This patch shows off the frequency-modulation abilities of the monotone bass synth and how it can be used to make house bass stabs.
Thor Sine Shaper Bass (11:18) - This patch uses the sine shaper to generate an FM-sounding tone from a saw wave. The interesting thing about this way of processing is it creates a much softer and rounder sound while still having the harmonic qualities of frequency modulation synthesis.
