Videos
The Interface (05:46) - In this first video, Larry gives you an introduction to the Retro Machines synth and also goes over the user interface.
The Oscillator & Filter Sections (12:10) - Next up learn the ways in which you can manipulate and sculpt your raw waveforms using the Osc and Filter sections. The Osc controls allow you to create thicker, chorused tones and eq?ed variations, and the filter parameters allow you to sculpt the frequencies to taste.
The Amp & LFO Sections (04:46) - Larry now covers the parameters of the Amp and LFO sections. The amp section allows you to tweak the sampled waveform?s attack and release times to widen the palette of sounds you can create, and the LFO can be adjusted to change the rate and shape of modulation.
The Perform & Effects Sections (04:01) - In this video, discover the ways in which you can setup your MIDI keyboard to work with Retro Machines. Larry covers the Solo, Legato and Glide Modes, and then continues, showing you how to add effects to your sounds in the effects section.
The Sound Variations (08:09) - Now learn all about the sound variations which allow you to create 8 different sounds for each preset, and then feely morph between them. You?ll then watch how to reset these and build your own collection of variations from scratch.
The Arpeggiator (09:26) - Next up, get an in-depth tour of the powerful arpeggiator, including how you can use it in conjunction with the Velocity Sliders and Sound Variation buttons to create really interesting rhythmic patterns, far beyond the capabilities of original analogue synth arpeggiators.
The Chord Mode (06:57) - Larry now explains Chord Mode which allows you to play one custom chord up and down the chromatic scale in Fixed Mode, or different custom chords on each note of the chromatic scale with Fixed Mode off. This, when combined with the arpeggiator, allows you to generate some really interesting rhythmic ideas.
The Settings Tab (03:25) - In this video, explore the ways in which a MIDI keyboard can interact with the synthesizer, allowing you to control different aspects of the sound using Mod Wheel, Aftertouch and Pitch Bend.
Making a Beat (13:01) - There are no drum presets in Retro Machines, so in this video Larry shows you how create a beat using some experimental synthesized percussion sounds!
Adding Some Chords (12:44) - Next up, see how to use Chord Mode and the Arpeggiator with Sound Variations to add a cool, choppy chord part. Larry then reveals how to add a little ?call and response? part to fill out the groove with another chord patch.
Adding Bass (06:21) - In this video, watch how to tweak a bass patch and play a funky-retro bass part to compliment the chords and beat we just laid down.
Adding Lead & Pad Sounds (08:00) - Last but not least, Larry shows you how to re-purpose the bass sound as a lead, and play a part 40 bpm slower, then speed it back up to the correct tempo. You?ll then watch how to add a pad sound by increasing the Filter Cutoff, and then use a negative envelope amount and a slow decay to create a pseudo filter envelope attack.
