    Tutorial 1

    Introduction

    4:56

In this first video Scottie takes a look at whats new in version 2 and takes a look at its main concepts and features, including the Overview and Advanced View.

  • image description

    Tutorial 2

    Quick Start

    7:01

In this video Scottie shows how to start using the plug-in right away.

  • image description

    Tutorial 3

    The Overview Panel

    11:22

The Overview Panel allows us to make some changes to the most common parameters. Its very easy to use even if you dont know what each module does.

The Modules

  • image description

    Tutorial 4

    EQ

    8:52

Nectars EQ is very powerful and very fast. Definitely the first tool to use with any element in a mix. Scottie digs into it here.

  • image description

    Tutorial 5

    Compressors

    7:54

Next on the list is the Compressor Module. Nectar offers everything from clean and transparent to aggressive and colorful. Scottie discusses the role of a compressor and some of the unique features Nectar brings to the table.

  • image description

    Tutorial 6

    The Limiter & De-Esser

    6:31

Now Scottie takes a look at two specialized Compressors. Both the Limiter and De-Esser can be very useful and Scottie explains both in this video.

  • image description

    Tutorial 7

    Gate

    6:31

Next up we have the Gate. Not the most fun effect but extremely useful when used correctly. explores how Nectars Gate can be both a downward and upward expander and how to use both.

  • image description

    Tutorial 8

    Saturation

    4:09

In this video Scottie takes a look at the Saturation Module. It can emulate five different types of Analog Mediums. We can add harmonic content by emulation everything from Tape to Tubes.

  • image description

    Tutorial 9

    Delay

    6:57

Next lets add space using delay. there are a handful of Delay types to chose from. Everything from transparent to very colored analog emulation.

  • image description

    Tutorial 10

    Reverb

    4:53

The reverb Module is pretty special. Its an emulation of an old EMT 140ST. In other words, one of the first stereo Plate reverb units. It mixes in a convolution reverb along with standard digital emulation. This allows the Module to be very rich and flexible. Scottie takes a close look at it in this video.

  • image description

    Tutorial 11

    FX

    6:31

The FX module has Overdrive, Phaser, Flanger, Chorus and a few others. These are more stylistic in nature and can be used to create specialty type effects.

  • image description

    Tutorial 12

    Pitch Correction

    4:20

Next up Scottie takes on Pitch Correction. This Module is able to very subtly nudge a vocal into pitch or extremely correct pushing the vocal into the unnatural robotic tuned sound. You can also use this Module to find the key of the song.

  • image description

    Tutorial 13

    Harmony

    6:59

Now ylooks at how to add harmony to a vocal take. With the option of adding up to four parts they can be in unison or full on harmony. You also have the ability to use MIDI to control this Module and how those harmonies are selected.

  • image description

    Tutorial 14

    Pitch Editor Plug-In

    7:41

In this video Scottie looks at the Standalone version of the Pitch Correction Module. This is only available in the Vocal Production Suite but allows extreme control over editing the pitch of our vocal. This video will explain everything you need to know about this powerful tool.

  • image description

    Tutorial 15

    Breath Control Plug-In

    3:58

Next up, another Production Suite Standalone device. Scottie digs into this incredible breath control plug-in.

Nectar 2 Explained - says it all!

I've had this plugin for quite some time now. After just a few sessions I find myself saying "So that's what that is for". Not long after that I was saying "Boy was I doing that all wrong"! Needless to say I haven't wasted any money in advancing my understanding of how to produce a good clean recording.

This Thing is now 3 Years Old!

I bought the iZotope "Music Production Bundle 2" specifically for Neutron Advanced and Ozone 7 Advanced, and got this Nectar 2 along for the ride. Today I was ready to go through Nectar 2 with this video series and was fairly disappointed in the product, but it is three years old. Let me be fair, the presentation gets absolute top marks. Every feature was covered at a pace and in such clarity that I at least feel I fully understand the product. It is the product itself that I am less than thrilled with by today's standards, October 9, 2016. Three years ago this was probably a groundbreaking product when it debuted. I will say this FOR Nectar 2: The De-esser is the best I've EVER heard. The reverb is lovely. The rest I can do without. There is a high processor demand from Nectar 2 that makes it not worth using, but I will certainly use it to process vocals just with the De-esser to bounce, and then use things like Neutron and other companies' plug-ins to more easily and effectively process the rest. Again, top marks to the video creator, great presentation.

1. When did you start dabbling in music?

I grew up taking classical piano lessons, so music has always been a part of my life. It started out as a daily chore and eventually evolved into a passion. Now I am very lucky to call it my profession.

2. What training have you had?

After thirteen years of private piano lessons I decided to pursue a formal degree. Two years in and I realized it wasn't for me. From that point on a began teaching myself and taking various online courses that offered subjects that excited me. I've gotten to learn and sit under individuals who are way better than I am.

3. When did you get into recording?

Ableton Live and the ability to make music with a computer were the two biggest reasons I didn't continue pursue a formal degree. I was in a band, we cut a DIY "garage album" and that started the obsession. The once obscured world of synths, hardware and software was now overwhealming as I transitioned away from a piano only mindset.

4. People you have worked with/for?

I have the great privilege to be working with Ableton as one of their Ableton Certified Trainers. Being a part of that community has been really amazing and life changing. I have yet to work with anyone rich and famous... but I have a feeling one day some of these crazy talented people will be. I get to work with students and artists who are chasing their musical dreams. I like the purity and passion that comes with that.

5. Why are you so good at training people?

Well, I've always been told that I'm a good teacher but I hated talking to people I didn't know. It took a while to get over those introvert tendencies and fear of public speaking and now I can't get enough. Watching a student get that lightbulb breakthrough or seeing an ignition of passion after the transfer of knowledge creates such a sense of fulfillment for me. I can't not teach.
